Developed Solution

This process is based on the proven ability to weld restore high carbon steel rails without the need for high temperature preheat that is commonly mandated in the railway industry for the manual metal arc repair of discrete defects on the rail head. The development encompassed the definition of the process parameters, the consumables, and the design and construction of a novel unit for milling and weld restoration employing extensive automation to ensure process control and consistency.
